Get ready for festive fun as towns across the county sparkle into the season with the switching on of Christmas Lights in Wexford. From the grand parade in Wexford town to the arrival of Santa on the quay, there’s something magical for the whole family to enjoy.
Here’s your ultimate guide to the start of the festivities in Wexford.
Wexford Town – 22 November
Wexford Town kicks off the festive season in style. The event begins with the spectacular “Winterland Parade” which winds from Selskar Square, down Main Street, past the Bullring, along North Main, then Anne Street and onto the Quay.
Santa and his merry crew will arrive to flick the switch and light up the town.
But that’s not all, Wexford will be transformed into a festive playground. Enjoy the ice-rink at “Wexford on Ice”, charming Christmas market stalls, live music, family-friendly entertainment, and the kind of lights that make you stop and stare.
Our Top Tip: Arrive early (the parade begins around 4:30pm) so you can enjoy the market, hot drinks, and warm up before the switch-on.
Gorey – 22 November
Up north in County Wexford, Gorey is getting into the festive spirit with its celebrated “Big Switch On”. Streets fill with live entertainment from around 6:30pm, and Santa arrives with the big light-up following soon after.
Experience the town centre as it transforms into a lively stage for community joy with street acts, seasonal songs and the feel-good buzz of neighbours gathering.
Our Top Tip: Parking will be restricted on Main Street from late afternoon with road closures in place, so plan your journey accordingly. Bundle up and bring your appetite for Christmas joy.
Enniscorthy – 28 November
In the picturesque town of Enniscorthy, the switch-on takes place in the Market Square, amidst the cobbled streets and charming architecture that will capture the glow of the season.
The atmosphere here is a bit more relaxed yet just as magical, making it perfect for families wanting a slightly quieter moment of festive sparkle.
Our Top Tip: Enjoy this community-focused evening with a hot chocolate while soaking in the atmosphere, and maybe start your Christmas shopping in one of the many local shops.
New Ross – 29 November
Downtown in New Ross, the switch-on at The Tholsel promises the full festive celebration. Keep your eyes peeled for Santa’s long-awaited arrival, and prepare for magic with the big reveal of festive lights at 5pm.
Our Top Tip: Why not make an evening of it with a warm meal or some festive shopping? Expect crowds, especially near the riverside and town centre – so make sure to find your spot early.
Duncannon – 30 November
In the charming seaside village of Duncannon, the Christmas lights turn-on has a distinctive coastal twist with Santa arriving by lifeboat! The village and harbour will come alight with festive cheer, as locals gather to start the festive season together.
Our Top Tip: The combination of Santa arriving by lifeboat, village lights, and windy seaside magic gives this one a unique charm. Great for a chilled but memorable evening.
