County Wexford welcomes Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann to Wexford town this August. The world’s biggest renowned celebration of traditional Irish music, culture and entertainment will fill every street, lane and corner across the town, set to be the most memorable one yet. With official events and competitions set to take place in over 18 different venues, bars and pubs across the town, musicians and performers of all ages will gather for this unforgettable festival in the sunny southeast.

 

What to expect? 

Get ready to enjoy more than a week of traditional Irish music at the world’s largest annual music festival. Expect street performances, intimate gigs, concerts, hundreds of competitions and céilís, big-name acts and everything else that comes with celebrating the very best of traditional Irish music and performance talent.

 

One of Wexford town’s main venues for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2024 will be constructed closer to the festival, in which it will see a large dome type venue erected on Wexford’s quay front holding a capacity of around 1,800 to 2,000 visitors. Across town, hotels, churches, theatres and schools will also set main stages ready for performance and competition including The National Opera House, Clayton Whites Hotel, The Riverbank House Hotel, Talbot Hotel, Bride Street and Rowe Street Churches, St Iberius Church, The CBS Primary and Secondary Schools, The Presentation, The Loreto, Lady of Famtima and Gaelscoil Charman. Meanwhile, St Joseph’s Community Centre, Clonard Community Centre and the street at Wexford County Council, The Quays, the cinema car park and Wexford GAA Park are set to host thousands of music lovers over the traditional sessions ahead.

 

 

What is Comhaltas?

Comhaltas is an organisation that runs a number of Irish traditional music, song, dance and language festivals called Fleadh Cheoil. The Irish translation of Fleadh Cheoil being ‘Festival of Music’ with everything from trad sessions, céilí and set dancing to competitions in music, song and dance ranging from local county and regional to provincial and All-Ireland levels. 

As an announced 2024 venue for Ireland’s most renowned and iconic Irish trad festival, County Wexford will see the annual All-Ireland Fleadh bring thousands of talented participating musicians, dancers, performers and Gaeilgeoirs to Ireland’s Ancient East with an estimated attendance of over one quarter of a million.
