A new chapter in cross-sea friendship has begun as Rosslare Municipal District and Fishguard & Goodwick Town Council officially signed a twinning agreement, bringing together two vibrant port communities rich in heritage, culture, and coastal charm.
The partnership will see the towns collaborate on tourism, cultural, and educational exchanges, strengthening ties between Wexford and Wales. From lively festivals and traditional music to shared maritime history, both destinations offer visitors a wealth of authentic experiences that celebrate life by the sea.
Speaking at the ceremony, Cllr Ger Carthy, Cathaoirleach of Rosslare Municipal District, said:
“This twinning marks an exciting step towards deeper connections between our communities. It will promote cultural exchanges, educational initiatives, and shared tourism ventures that can enrich both regions.”
The symbolic signing took place aboard the Stena Nordica, mid-crossing on the Irish Sea — the perfect setting to celebrate the unity between these two coastal gateways.
The Rosslare delegation also joined the annual SS St Patrick commemoration, honouring those lost at sea during World War II, with moving ceremonies in Fishguard and aboard the Stena Nordica.
With this new partnership, visitors can look forward to even more opportunities to discover, share, and celebrate the culture and coastal beauty of both Rosslare and Fishguard & Goodwick.
