Rathangan Country Fair is planned as a weekend of culture, fun and charity and will have something on offer for all, young and old.
Saturday evening will see a parade of steam engines, classic cars & tractors enter the village. The two Showman’s steam engines lit up will be a sight to behold as the darkness descends. There will be musical entertainment in Rathangan Bar with the brilliant Borderline starting off proceedings at 6pm followed by the lively Joe Davitt & Band from 9pm. The night will finish with DJ Matty. A monster BBQ and Pig on the Spit will ensure nobody is hungry over the course of the evening!
Sunday will be a much busier affair with a huge array of events taking place in the parish field. Members of the public along with the steam engine crews are invited to dress in style in keeping with the era. The steam engines will each be working, displaying old traditional farming methods of threshing, stone crushing and sawing. Local crafts people will exhibit associated crafts of flailing, thatching, wood turning, bread and butter making, weaving, sewing among others. Local artists will perform musical talents on stage and the children will be entertained by various types of races, face painting, fancy dress etc. The eagerly awaited final of the rounders tournament will take place where two local teams will fight it out to win the Sammy Sinnott Cup. Again, a monster BBQ and Pig on the Spit will be endeavor to keep everyone’s tastebuds ticked on Sunday. Incredible evening entertainment awaits with Hot Asphalt taking to the stage at 5pm followed by ABBA Tribute Band at 8pm. A perfect way to finish off two great days.
