Handel’s Messiah Irish Baroque Orchestra and Choir at the National Opera House

The Irish Baroque Orchestra’s annual production of Handel’s Messiah is an established highlight of the December calendar. Performed on period instruments and with full chorus, it captures Handel’s much-loved work in all its original colour, drama and splendour.

The IBO’s acclaimed Messiah recording has been praised internationally, with Gramophone describing the performance as “fresh and exhilarating”, while BBC Music Magazine called it “a terrific recording”. Under the direction of Peter Whelan, Handel’s music comes alive with the “freshness, excitement, uplift and spiritual glow” praised by The Times.

Hailed as a master of sacred and secular music, Handel’s extraordinary talent for composing for voice and instrument shines throughout Messiah, which Irish audiences first took to their hearts in 1742.

The Irish Baroque Orchestra is proudly funded by Arts Council Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, and Messiah is presented in partnership with the National Opera House, Wexford.
