Because I’m Worth It! An evening of comedy and storytelling with Barbara Scully

Barbara Scully’s brand-new One-Woman Show is called ‘Because I’m Worth It. This follows the success of her first One Woman Show, Older Bolder Wiser.

‘Because I’m Worth It’ is once again on the theme of getting older but with a different focus. Like ‘Older, Bolder, Wiser’ it is a combination of stand-up comedy and storytelling.This time Barbara spins tales of how, now that she is in her sixties, she is now finally able to put herself front and centre of her life as she realises that she is ‘bloody well worth it’.”

So there are some things she will no longer do – such as flying with a certain budget airline and there are things that she insists on doing now, because she is worth it and that is where she comes unstuck at times, with hilarious results. Her stories of pampering herself in Spas abroad are hysterical.

Her shows, although clearly aimed mainly at women, have been a hit with the men who have attended too. “I have had men at all my shows, and they laughed and learned lots along the way.”Barbara feels that her unique selling point is that she is serving an audience who are not well served by stand-up comedy. She says, “I want my audience to go home having had a good laugh and feeling much better about getting older than they did when they arrived.”

BRIEF BACKGROUND

Writer, broadcaster and comedy storyteller, Barbara Scully is a familiar voice on radio, contributing regularly to many programmes on both RTE Radio 1 and Newstalk where she is one half of the hugely popular ‘So You Think You’re an Adult’ slot on the Moncrieff Show. She is currently on a mission to change how we view ageing particularly for women.

Barbara dipped her toe into comedy in 2024 and realised that midlife plus women were an audience hungry for a laugh and were very enthusiastic about her positive ageing message. Her first one-woman show was called Older, Bolder, Wiser and was well received in 2025. Her new show is called ‘Because I’m Worth It’ and is touring now.
