To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Billy Roche scripted 1996 film ‘Trojan Eddie’, The Picture House (Wexford Film Society) and the Irish Film Institute have come together to present the IFI’s newly restored digital print of the Gillies MacKinnon directed film.

Starring Academy Award nominees Stephen Rea, Richard Harris and Brendan Gleeson, Rea plays Eddie, a small-time hustler who falls foul of John Power, a dangerous Godfather type figure of the local traveller community, when Eddie’s sidekick (Stuart Townsend) runs off with Power’s young bride (Aisling McGuckin). Gleeson plays Power’s son.

Sean McGinley, Angeline Ball, Brid Brennan, Dolores Keane and Pecker Dunne also star.

‘Trojan Eddie’ won the Best Film Award at the 1996 San Sebastian International Film Festival.

This digital restoration from 35mm elements, which was created by the IFI Irish Film Archive for IFI’s Digital Restoration Project is funded by Screen Ireland/Fís Éireann.
