Irish Agricultural Museum and Johnstown Castle Gardens

Irish Agricultural Museum and Johnstown Castle Gardens

With one of the most comprehensive displays of farming and rural life in the country, the Irish Agricultural Museum and Johnstown Castle Gardens make a wonderful day out for all the family - whatever the weather.

The beautifully maintained ornamental gardens surrounding Johnstown Castle were designed by in the 19th century by Daniel Robertson and feature three lakes, a wallled garden and a resident family of peacocks.

The Irish Agricultural Museum is housed in the former farm buildings and features imaginatively laid out exhibitions exploring themes such as farmhouse kitchens through the ages, traditional crafts, Irish country furniture and the Great Famine. You can also learn about the chequered history of Johnstown Castle and the families who once lived there.

A range of family-friendly quizzes and trails are available for both the Museum and Gardens.

The Peacock Tea Room is located near the entrance to the Museum and serves a selection of refreshments all year round. There is also a small shop selling souvenirs, gifts and books.

Irish Agricultural Museum and Johnstown Castle Gardens is less than an hour's drive from Waterford City and just an hour and 20 minutes from Kilkenny City.
