12th century Cistercian Monastery

Dunbrody Abbey is a very large 12th century Cistercian monastery. Founded in 1120 by Herve De Montmonfenci on the instructions of Strongbow.

Along with our Visitor Centre, we also have the following on site: an extensive Yew Hedge Maze made of 1,500 trees, a 9-hole family Pitch & Putt course, Tea Rooms, Craft Gallery and Mini-Museum.

There is also ample parking on site.


Dunbrody Abbey is a 40 minute drive from Waterford City and is just an hour from Kilkenny City.
