Brooklyn Movie Bus Tour
Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford
Once in a while a movie comes along that is just special. A movie that critics the world over give the best reviews possible. And once in a lifetime that movie is set and made in Enniscorthy! No back lot in Hollywood - the streets of Enniscorthy is all this movie needed.
Brooklyn is a film that appeals to all audiences and tugs and plays with your emotions. A movie that, since its release in November 2015, has already won international acclaim and been nominated for three Oscars. Brooklyn is a superb adaptation by Nick Hornby of local author Colm Tóibín’s award-winning book set in Enniscorthy and New York in the early 50s. It tells the story of an Irish girl making her way to New York to chase the American dream.
But you don’t have to travel to Hollywood to see the set of Brooklyn because it was filmed right here in Enniscorthy. This is what makes the film all the more unique; it was filmed on the very streets that are mentioned in the original book!
On the Brooklyn Movie Bus Tour you will visit the actual streets and places you read about in the book and saw in the movie: John Street, Court Street, The Folly, Mrs Kelly’s shop, The Athenaeum, and St Aidan’s Cathedral.
You will also visit the beautiful Curracloe Beach. Along with Brooklyn, this beautiful pristine beach also featured in the film, Saving Private Ryan.
At the tour's end you can pay a visit to the new Brooklyn Movie & 1950s Lifestyle Exhibit in Enniscorthy Castle. Here you will see memorabilia and props from the movie itself and learn what life was like in 1950s Ireland.
Enniscorthy is less than one hour from Waterford City and is 70 minutes from Kilkenny City.
