Join Seal Rescue Ireland in Courtown Co. Wexford for a special COMMON SEAL PUP RELEASE on December 30th, 2017!
As 2017 draws to a close, some of our Common Seal pups from the Summer season are finally ready to head back to the wild! After months of hard work to get these orphaned pups strong and healthy enough to be released, the event has been set for Saturday, the 30th of December. Please join us in celebrating the end of the year and the hard earned success of these rehabilitated seals at the last public release of 2017 2 pm at North Beach in Courtown! There will be a table serving hot drinks and baked goods available to attendees with all donations going to SRI to continue their life saving work! Members, rescuers, adopters and the general public are invited to be a part of this rewarding and beautiful experience. Bring your cameras and your waterproof shoes! All ages are welcome.
Seal Rescue Ireland is the only organization in the Republic of Ireland that rescues and rehabilitates seals. Established in 2010, SRI now manages a network of over 700 rescue and transport volunteers, as well as dozens of full-time resident volunteers from all over the world to rescue, rehabilitate and release native common and grey seals back to their ocean homes each year. Last year Seal Rescue Ireland successfully released an impressive 74% of the animals admitted with a growing number of intakes each year. Additionally, Seal Rescue Ireland runs very active educational programs and community outreach events to promote ocean conservation. This year alone, SRI has welcomed over 30,000 people from all over the world to its hospital and visitor centre in Courtown! Visitors are encouraged to take a free tour of the facility, learn about the work they’re doing, and hear about each of the seals in their care. Seal Rescue Ireland receives its funding from donations and sales in its Courtown gift shop. Additional support is received via in-kind donations and fundraising programs like Adoptions, Rescuer For A Day, Corporate Volunteer Days, and Annual Memberships.
