John Coltrane is one of the most iconic figures jazz has ever produced and had an almost instantly recognizable tone and sound on tenor saxophone. He came to major attention as part of the Miles Davis Quintet that would go on to record Kind of Blue before a legendary 6 month residency in Carnegie Hall with Thelonious Monk. He forged a career with a relentless searching for a new approach to improvising, culminating in his own legendary Quartet. His music took on a more spiritual approach with albums such as Love Supreme with his music eventually becoming quite controversial before his death in 1967.
Kevin Lawlor Quartet will be performing music from his early career as well as pieces from Blue Train, Giant Steps and other great Trane albums.
