“The Waters of Wexford- Goddesses, Pirates and Shipwrecks” Talk in Enniscorthy Castle

Heritage Week Event on the 16th of August at 1.30pm to 2.30pm

The waters of Wexford exhibit looks at the maritime history of County Wexford including real life stories of piracy and tragedy on the high seas, myths and legends surrounding the oceans and rivers, and various artifacts recovered from wrecks and decommissioned vessels. 

The talk will include stories of the mutinous crew of the Earl of Sandwich and the sacking of Wexford town, how the rivers Slaney and Boyne got their names as well as the Boyne rivers connection to the hero Fionn Mac Cumhaill, the whale that washed up in Wexford harbour and the night the emigrant ship Pomona sank as well as information on piracy on the Saltee Islands and the development and use of boats in Wexford.
