Art in the Open

ART IN THE OPEN, now in its 17th year is getting bigger and better by the year.  With bookings full to the brim and a packed selection of workshops and presentations, it certainly deserves its title of the largest outdoor painting festival in Europe.

Lots of returning visitors and some exciting new artists joining us this year from South Africa, Singapore, Bermuda, Iceland, the UAE and of course the US, Canada, all over Europe, UK and Ireland.

First paint-out day takes place traditionally in Wexford town, followed daily by some seaside coastal landscapes in Carne Beach, the stunning Wells House and Gardens, the iconic Hook Head Peninsula, the very scenic Graiguenamanagh and our paint-out finale takes place at the historic Tintern Abbey and stunning Colclough Gardens.

Our annual Charity Quick Draw event will take place in Wexford town centre the first weekend this year and our chosen charity partner is Wexford RNLI. We’re looking forward to working with them and raising some well-deserved funds to support them in the amazing work they do.

We’re privileged to host some of the world’s finest tutors for our varied selection of workshops and masterclasses available throughout the festival at the daily paint-out venues. www.artintheopen/tutors

The festival will host additional events this year in the National Opera House and Wexford Arts Centre, all of which will be open to the public.  Details on our website https://www.artintheopen.org/public-events

We also host lots of social gatherings where our committee, volunteers and artists enjoy some down time to socialise and get to know each other in the convivial surrounding in our lovely town.

When the week’s painting is complete, the highly anticipated grand finale of the festival is the Gala Exhibition at Green Acres Gallery this year on Saturday & Sunday 27th & 28th July.

A great opportunity to see the fabulous exhibition before it opens to the public is to avail of our ‘Preview Ticket’ which entitles you and a guest to enjoy a private preview reception from 11am before the public exhibition opens at 12noon and get first dibs on the painting of your choice. The highly sought after Preview Tickets  are available on our website https://www.artintheopen.org/become-a-patron

The festival welcome visitors and non-participants to join them throughout the festival to view the work-in-process and join our public events at the National Opera House and Wexford Arts Centre,  and of course come along to the Gala Exhibition at the end of the festival in Green Acres Gallery on Saturday & Sunday 27/28th July.
