Travelling to Wexford

 

County Wexford is positioned in the most southeast and sunniest corner of Ireland. Dublin (the capital city of Ireland) is just a 90 minute drive away and the cities of Waterford and Kilkenny are within an hour’s drive.

Travelling to the cornerstone of Ireland’s Ancient East is very straight forward and you’ll take in wonderful, lush surroundings on your journey no matter what form of transport you take.

 

By Car

Wexford is approximately 90 minutes from Ireland’s capital city, Dublin. Simply follow the N11 all the way south.

The county is close to Waterford – driving from Waterford Airport, one can be in County Wexford in just 30 minutes, exploring this amazing cornerstone of Ireland’s Ancient East.

By Bus

Wexford Bus is an ideal way to travel to, from, and around County Wexford. They operate up to 29 daily services between Dublin Airport, Dublin City, Arklow, Gorey, Enniscorthy, and Wexford Town (Route 740). They also have regular services to Waterford City from Wexford (Route 340).

Wexford Bus also provides transport links within the county – to Kilmore Quay, Rosslare Strand, Castlebridge, and around Wexford Town.

Ireland's national bus network, Bus Eireann also run buses between Dublin Airport/City and Wexford. Route 2 runs from Dublin Airport (stopping in Dublin City) all the way down through County Wexford to Wexford Town, stopping at the main towns along the way e.g. Gorey and Enniscorthy.

From Waterford, the main route to New Ross and Wexford Town in County Wexford (and onwards to Rosslare Europort) is Route 40. This stop at the very end of this route is actually Tralee in County Kerry, making one corner of Ireland easily accessible from another! 

Route 370 is another route travelling from Wexford Town and Rosslare Europort to Waterford City. This bus journey stops along the way at some wonderful towns and villages in the south of County Wexford such as Duncannon.

By Train

Irish Rail run direct connections between Wexford and Dublin City with multiple daily services to five train stations across County Wexford; Gorey, Enniscorthy, Wexford Town, Rosslare Strand, and Rosslare Europort. 

If you are flying into Dublin Airport there is a connecting coach service from the Airport to Busáras, the central bus station in Dublin City. This bus station is just a two minute walk from Connolly Train Station where the train to County Wexford can be boarded.

By Air

Dublin Airport
Dublin Airport is Ireland’s main airport and is the gateway to Ireland from destinations all over the globe.

As mentioned above there are many bus and bus-train options for getting to Wexford from Dublin Airport. There is also car hire available at Dublin Airport to enable you to drive the convenient route south to gorgeous County Wexford. The journey takes between 90 minutes and two hours depending on which part of County Wexford you are travelling to.

Waterford Airport
Waterford Airport is the closest airport to County Wexford and is just 70km from Wexford Town. The airport is serviced by regular direct flights from London Luton and Birmingham airports in the UK.

Car Hire is available at the airport and a taxi service is also available to shuttle passengers to and from Waterford train and bus stations from which visitors can then continue on their journey to Wexford.

County Wexford is two and a half hours from Shannon Airport. On your journey you travel across the heart of South East Ireland. Shannon Airport is connected by flights from a handful of UK destinations, along with many European hubs and several US locations.

By Sea

County Wexford is conveniently accessible from Dublin Port and especially Rosslare Europort (both car ferry ports). 

Rosslare Europort is just 15 minutes from Wexford Town and has daily services to and from the UK (Fishguard and Pembroke) and France (Cherbourg and Le Harve). There are then buses, trains, and taxis all available from Rosslare Europort to take visitors to Wexford Town and further into the County.
