Wild Goose Festival
Wexford Wildfowl Reserve
24th October to 1st November
Wexford Wildfowl Reserve celebrates the annual return of thousands of Greenland White-Fronted Geese to their wintering grounds on the North Slob every October. They time their arrival to coincide most considerately with the Wexford Opera and Fringe Festivals - and the school break! Over 8,000 spend the winter months feeding in the fields of reclaimed land and roosting by night on sandbanks in Wexford Harbour. Opera and Fringe Festival goers are warmly invited to drop into the Reserve to see the flocks from our observation tower and hides.
Throughout the Goose Festival period (October 24 to November 1), the Visitor Centre is hosting family-friendly nature-themed challenges.
Wild Goose Chase: answer a questionnaire with clues from our Goose Display.
CSI Wexford: identify the skulls of native Irish animals (we didn't kill them -honest).
Through the Spyhole: identify bird nest boxes, with folders and information leaflets for successful participants.
We are open from 9am to 5pm seven days a week.
We will also be holding a book sale through the Goose Festival Period, the proceeds of which will go to BirdWatch Ireland, donations of books on nature and wildlife are gratefully received. Check out our Festival events throughout the week.
Wexford Wildfowl Reserve is less than 90 minutes from Waterford City and approximately 100 minutes from Kilkenny City.
