Aims Choral Festival
May 2012 will see New Ross host its 28th AIMS Choral Festival (18th to 20th May) with 21 competitions across two days for Junior and Adult competitions.
The AIMS Choral Festival is noted for its high competitive standards set by our renowned panel of adjudicators together with its friendly informal atmosphere. Overall, the festival attracts over 1000 participants with the best of choral music in all its many forms.
We are introducing a NEW competition this year called “Light Touch”. The trophy for this competition is the “Tom McNally Memorial Perpetual Trophy”, which will be presented to the winners of the NEW competition. Each year we will have different categories of light and popular music in the competition. In this, our first year, we have chosen the music of “The Beatles”.
We are delighted to host the announcement of the AIMS Nominations again in St Michael’s Theatre, New Ross on Sunday 20th May, at 1pm, for the AIMS awards in Killarney in June.
To further enhance the musical atmosphere for the week-end, we will stage a Gala Concert, “Hits from the Musicals” performed by Wexford Light Opera Society. A musical feast of chorus and solo singing with numbers from Broadway and West-end shows old and new…”Chess”, “The Merry Widow”, “Blood Brothers”, “Chicago”, “Pirates of Penzance” and many more. The concert will take place on Saturday the 19th at 8pm in St Michael’s Theatre.
We are also delighted to avail of the services of New Ross Chamber, where our competitions secretary has all the up-to-date festival data at her finger tips. Along with our voluntary festival committee and AIMS councillors, we are indebted to all our volunteers who contribute greatly to the smooth running of the festival week-end.
